The
easternmost canton of Switzerland, Grisons - or Graubunden as it is known in German - is
also the largest. Grisons is completely covered in mountains so it is not surprising that
it is the home of some of the most exclusive ski resorts in the world, such as St-Moritz
and Davos. However, despite this, some of the remote parts of this canton are still
completely unspoiled. The mountains around Grisons are not as high nor as steep as those
around Valais, and so the area is very suitable for beginner skiers. It is also a great
place for more experienced skiers as it has the best cross- country skiing in the Alps. |

St-Moritz |

Probably the most
exclusive ski resort in the world, St-Moritz is set like a jewel in a crown of mountains.
It has its own airport and luxurious accommodation to cater for its rich and famous
regulars who come for the glamour and the high life, as well as the excellent skiing.
Beside the down hill, it is also the best place in the Alps for cross-country skiing. At
the end of the day, you can rest in one of the famous thermal baths, recognised for 3000
years for their curative properties. In February, don't miss the horse race on the frozen
lake, made famous in the James Bond movie. |

Davos |

This is the place where
the world's top business men meet for the World Economic Forum. Davos has a dream setting
in the mountains, and its ski slopes are the equal of those at St-Moritz. Davos was first
developed as a thermal area, but it rapidly became one of the best places for skiing in
the Alps. On the same valley as Chur, it is much more accessible than St.-Moritz, for
those who cannot afford a private jet. |

in the crisp, clear mountain air.
