Any number of upmarket château-style hotels capitalize on
Lausanne’s unique topography to offer romantic lake views along with
their more or less tasteful line in opulent pamperment – but none offers
outstanding value for money. The stately old Hôtel d’Angleterre on
the lakefront, where Byron is reputed to have written The Prisoner of
Chillon, has closed off its rooms for the foreseeable future for
much-needed redevelopment, although its terrace café remains in service. | Beau-Rivage Palace ***** Lausanne’s – and one of Switzerland’s –
top establishments, set in its own waterside garden estate and recently
sparklingly resorted to its original 1861 grandeur. You could want for
nothing more. 17 Place du Port Phone : ++41 021/613 33 33 Fax : ++41 021/613 33 34 Web : www.beau-rivage-palace.ch E-mail : reservation@beau-.rivage-palace.ch |

| Château d’Ouchy **** Grandiose old pile put up in the 1890s on the ruins of a twelfth-century
keep. This is the only hotel situated on the lake-side of the main road,
separated from the water by lush gardens. Stout, woody decor, open
fireplaces and some surprisingly affordable rooms add to the charm.
Romantics will relish the lofty tower room, its Romanesque windows
framing dreamy lake views. 2 Place du Port Phone : ++41 022/616 74 51 Fax : ++41 022/ 617 51 37 |
