As you might expect from a city which plays regular host to top-level suits on unlimited expense accounts, Geneva has no shortage of stratospherically expensive hotels – the Quai des Bergues and Quai du Mont-Blanc in particular are shoulder-to-shoulder with them. | Beau Rivage ***** Dreamy classical-style
palace, drenched in luxury redolent of its 1865 foundation. The same
family tends to the hotel’s guests now as then, and a farther cry from
international business-class anonymity you couldn’t find. If Paco Rabanne
enjoyed it here, so can you. This was the hotel were austrian Empress
Sissi stayed before her brutal murder by an italian anarchist in
1898. Tél : ++41 22/716 66 66 Fax : ++41 22/716 60 60 Web : www.beau-rivage.ch |
| Des Bergues ***** Oldest of Geneva’s palace-style hotels, this much-loved 1834
landmark was recently renovated to glittering international standards,
yet retains its atmosphere of discreet and unassailable opulence. Its
history, which takes in – quite literally – the crowned heads of
Europe, seeps from the tastefully draped walls. 33 Quai des Bergues Tél : ++41 22/908 70 00 Fax : ++41 22 908 70 90 Web : www.hoteldesbergues.com |
| Intercontinental ***** A vast Sixties high-rise out near the UN, some rooms boasting
spectacular lake-views, that is the favoured choice of politicos and
visiting international delegations. Cosy decor softens the generic
interior, but sombre, world-affairs formality is the tone. The
visitors’ book reads like a rollcall of history, running through the
last half-dozen US presidents, King Hussein, Fidel Castro and Nelson
Mandela, to name a few 7 Chemin du Petit-Saconnex Tél : ++41 22/919 39 39 Fax : ++41 22/919 38 38

| Angleterre ***** Known as
the most expensive hotel in Geneva, it is also, for many, the best. Small
but not tiny, this intimate hotel is located on the Right Bank,
facing the water jet. Tél : ++41 22/906 55 55 Fax : ++41 22/906 55 56 17, Quai du Mont-Blanc Web : Click

| Noga Hilton ***** Huge
glass and metal mammoth on the Right Bank, right in front of the water jet,
the Noga Hilton was built by the genevan financier Nessim Gaon (hence the name Noga) in the 1970s - and financial dire straits
kept him from engaging into a long-overdue overhauling. That's a pity for
such a nicely located business hotel. We found both the chinese and french
gastronomic
restaurant overrated. Quai du Mont-Blanc 19 Tél : ++41 22/908 90 81 Fax : ++41 22/908 9091 Web : www.hiltongeneve.ch |
| Hotel de la Paix ***** Quai du Mont-Blanc 11 Tél : ++41 22/909 60 00 Fax : ++41 22/909 60 01 Web :www.hoteldelapaix.ch |
| Mandarin Oriental Hôtel du Rhône ***** Splendid business hotel recently refurbished,
with a central yet noiseless location. A favorite with Micheloud & Cie
clients. Quai Th.-Turrettini Tél : ++41 22/909 00 00 Fax : ++41 22/909 00 10 Web : www.mandarinoriental.com |
| Richemond ***** Formerly
on the of the best palaces in Geneva, the Richemond has seen several
changes in the ownership and directions and this reflects very badly on
the service and room quality. If somebody recommends you this hotel, you
should ask him when was the last time he slept there. If that was 5 years
ago or more - ask somebody else. Rue Adhémar-Fabri 8-10 Tél : ++41 22/715 70 00 E-Mail

right outside the city, La Reserve is especially popular with clients from
the Middle East and Russia. 301 Route De Lausanne, Bellevue Tél : ++41 22/959 86 88 Fax : ++41 22/959 85 88 Web :Site |
| La Cigogne **** Splendid intimate hotel located
right in the center of the Left Bank, member of Relais & Chateaux.

| Les Armures ***** Seventeenth-century building in
the heart of the Old Town; characterful rooms with wood beams and frescoed decor. Clinton and Carter
slept there. The restaurant has a lot of character but we
can't recommend the food.. 1 Rue du Puits St-Pierre Tél : ++41 22/310 91 72 Fax : ++41 22/310 98 46 E-mail : armures@span.ch Web : www.hotel-les-armures.ch |
