Villars’ station is in the heart of the village; 50m
to the right on the main Avenue Central is the tourist office (Christmas,
New Year, Feb, July & Aug daily 8am–7pm; rest of year Mon–Sat 8am–noon & 1.30–6pm,
Sun 10am–4pm; 024/495 32 32, www.villars.ch).
For accommodation, Hôtel du Cerf (024/495 27 15, fax 495 14 37;
b) is cosy enough, with good meals, while the huge Elite (024/496 39
00, fax 496 39 01; c) is conveniently located right beside the Roc d’Orsay gondola,
with brand-new renovated rooms. Alpe Fleurie (024/495 34 64, fax 496
30 77; c) and Ecureuil (024/495 27 95, fax 495 42 05; c) are old-style
chalet-hotels with a long history of catering to families, both conveniently
central. A low-end option is the charming Chalet Martinhostel five minutes’ walk above Gryon station (024/498 33 21; a), a cosy, friendly
place run by a Swiss-Australian couple, with dorm space for Fr.18. Le Vieux-Villars,
on the Route des Hôtels, is a three-storey restaurant known for its fondues
and raclettes. |
