Eating and drinking is least expensive at the Co-op self-service restaurant near the station. Otherwise, you can check out where the champagne set are gathering in any of half-a-dozen terrace cafés and restaurants along Promenade. Charly’s is perhaps the most famous, followed up by Rialto and Pernet facing each other near the chapel. The restaurant in Posthotel Rössli has good, plain Swiss meals without the fuss (menus Fr.20 or so), while Sporthotel Rütti, ten minutes’ walk south of town, is acclaimed for its tasty Swiss and Italian-ish cooking, from Fr.15. At the other end of the scale, Chesery (033/744 24 51) is the place to see and be seen, a lively late-night gourmet eatery and piano-bar, with the prices as high as the stilettos; not less than Fr.150 for dinner. |
