Bern : Eating and drinking Home > Tourist Guide > Table of contents > Bern > Restaurants It’s not hard to find good, filling food in Bern for Fr.10–15, and the best way to cut costs is to take advantage of lunchtime specials and daily menus – Café Bubenberg Vegi, Brasserie Lorraine and Cinématte stand out as places where you can get great food for bargain prices. Sous Le Pont in the Reitschule has consistently appealing fare, and a feature of their social policy is to offer one square meal a day for a rock-bottom Fr.5. Bern’s branch of the cheapo self-serviceManora (Bubenbergplatz 5a; Mon–Sat 7am–10.30pm, Sun 9am–10.30pm) is a good one, offering some of the least bad Fr.10 meals in the centre. Another good option is to head for the university; the Unitobler café at Länggassstrasse 49a (side entrance on Lerchenweg; Mon–Fri
8.30am–4pm; food 11.30am–1.45pm) is a self-service student dining hall, with the
added attraction of a sunny terrace for lounging or playing boules.
Opposite is Mappamondo, a self-service Italian with an echoing exam hall
for a dining area; or check out the Fr.11 lunch menu at the cosy Länggassträff café at nearby Lerchenweg 33.
