Yverdon’s train station (with change counter Mon–Sat 5.20am–8.40pm, Sun 5.50am–8.40pm, and bike hire) is 100m northeast of the Old Town, and about 600m southwest of the lakeshore; the post office (CH-1400 Yverdon 1) is next door. Boats dock at the débarcadère on Quai de Nogent near the racecourse; it’s a fifteen-minute walk south along the River Thièle and under the train tracks (or take bus #2) to reach the Old Town. The focus of the Old Town is Place Pestalozzi, in front of the castle walls; on the south side of the square is the tourist office (July & Aug Mon–Fri 8.30am–6pm, Sat 9am–noon; June & Sept Mon–Fri 8.30am–noon & 1.30–6pm, Sat 9am–noon; Oct–May Mon–Fri 8.30am–noon & 1.30–5.30pm; 024/423 62 90, www.yverdon-les-bains.ch). Their free guided tours of the town are in French and German only (July & Aug Mon 4pm), unless you book as a group, in which case they cost a standard group rate of Fr.100 for up to twenty people.
