Switzerland is the European country with the highest per capita number of refugees. Already during WWI and WWII Switzerland was a haven for as many refugees as the country could support, and this tradition has gone on until the present day.
However, the high number of refugees, from Albania, Africa, Sri Lanka and many other countries means that our government applies strict criterions. To qualify for a political refugee status in Switzerland, you must prove that you are threatened physically (torture, prison, death) in your country because of your race, religion, political activity or belief.
