Geneva’s gay scene is centred around Dialogai, 11 Rue de la Navigation (Mon, Tues & Fri 3–6pm, Wed 3–10pm ; 022/906 40 40, www.hivnet.ch/dialogai), which, as well as being a library and resource centre for the whole of Romandie, has news about one-offs around the city as well as a regular programme of on-site events. The adjacent café metamorphoses between being the Chez Rosy tearoom (Sun–Thurs 9am–5pm) and the Sunset tapas bar (Wed–Sun 5–10pm). Every week, they put on a mass candlelit dinner in a back room, guys crowding at long tables for the home-made food (Wed 7–10pm; Fr.12; maximum 80 – arrive early). Every other Friday is Genfshaft, best macho jeans/leather night in the city (11pm–5am; Fr.10). The Rêve d’O techno club has occasional gay nights, while Le Loft, 20 Quai de Seujet, is a big, glitzy campy disco, with top-quality drag shows during the week. La Bretelle and L’Evidence, 13 Rue des Grottes (Mon–Fri 6am–1am, Sat & Sun 11am–1am), are gay-friendly café-bars, while Le Nathancafé de jour - bar de nuit, 6 rue Baudit, is a gay night-café with bars and a darkroom (Mon–Sun 17pm–2am). You’ll find no shortage of cruising possibilities among the Pâquis sex-shops – Le Garage, 14 Rue de Neuchâtel, is king. The Gay International Group (022/789 18 69) meets every fortnight and welcomes newcomers.

Dialogai can help out with lesbian-oriented information, or you should call the Centre femmes Natalie Barney, 19 Château-Bloch in Vernier (022/797 27 14), or La Clef, 3 bis Rue du Stand (022/781 71 30). The latter has regular lesbian dance nights (Fri & Sat 10pm–3am). L’Inédite is a bookshop and resource centre for women – lesbian and not – at 15 Rue St Joseph, Carouge. There are no lesbian-only clubs.
