Many foreign companies have their global or regional
headquarters and their research centers in Switzerland.
Why? For three main reasons: low taxes, quality of life, and
Switzerland's location at the centre of Europe.
- Taxes: Although Switzerland is not a zero-tax
paradise, its company tax rate is very low compared to other OECD countries, and is
certain to stay that way. Also, Swiss local governments will often offer a tax break to
large companies who move their headquarters to their regions.
- Quality of life: With about 30% foreigners in
some cantons, many of them high-calibre civil servants in international organisations,
Switzerland is well-equipped to take care of expatriates and their families. Switzerland
has world-class accommodation, a multi-lingual population, highly reputable international
schools, and excellent restaurants. And it's so safe and secure - there is no
violent crime, no pollution, no problems, just beautiful surroundings
and all the things that make everyday life enjoyable.
- Centrality: When setting up your business's
international headquarters, the ability to go quickly from one city to another is of the
utmost importance. Switzerland is at the very centre of Europe. From Geneva, you are only
about one hour away from Paris, London, Amsterdam, Rome, Frankfurt ... with direct
connections. Some people even work in Stockholm, Madrid or London during the week and
commute to Switzerland for the week-end, thus allowing their families to take advantage of
Switzerland's excellent standard of living. Click here for more
