Maintaining an account costs money to a bank. In consequence, many banks will ask you to maintain a minimum balance on your account. If there's no minimum balance, this information will be empty.
We hear two common questions regarding this restriction :
How long do I have to transfer the minimum balance ?
It depends on the bank. For example, Swiss banks will leave you up to 2 months to transfer the money once the account has been opened. Banks in the Bahamas commonly ask for a cheque when you open the account.
What happens if my balance goes below the minimum ?
You will probably get a phone call from your account officer enquiring about the reasons of your low balance. Then, depending on what those reasons are and on your relations with the bank, a manager may close the account down and send you a cheque for the balance. However, this is rather unlikely and will definitely take some time.
